I have always thoroughly loved music for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I used to make my brother’s blood boil because of how often I would walk through life singing random tunes. I started making art in 2018 when I learned how to paint on sneakers and clothing. My best friend and I began trying to learn software programs like photoshop in order to create our own cover art work for the music we used to make in her basement.
Now years later, I have learned how to use a multitude of programs and applications and can utilize them to express the feelings I wanted to visually express back then but couldn’t. Many of the covers I created have a grainy texture and nostalgic feeling to them because of this connection to my younger self’s emotions. I was drawn to creating this zine because music and it’s cover art are pieces that play off of each other to enhance the audience’s experience. I picked out each of my favorite albums or covers for each of my favorite genres and created a playlist for each genre. I then put on the respective playlist and looked for elements of those covers for inspiration. I pulled together the elements I was drawn to as well as the energy of the music and my memory of my emotional connections to the music going back in time to create my own cover for each genre.
